Hello, and welcome!

Hello and welcome! I'm Alexis, the voice and creator of Stitched By Alexis, but I'm also lovingly called T-1000. I'm thrilled that you're here!

You might be wondering, "T-1000? Isn't that a reference to the Terminator movies?" And you're right! Many years ago, my husband gave me that name, and it stuck. I have a tendency to go full force when I get an idea in my head, and Stitched By Alexis is no different.

Here on 'T-1000 Talks,' you'll find tutorials, professional interviews, quilting and sewing tips, photography education, along with all the nitty-gritty details on my recent creations.

Let me start with an introduction. I'm a wife to a wonderful and amazing quilting husband of 15 years, a mom to a 13-year-old teenager, and a dog mom to the ever-popular Sadie. We live in Southern California, centrally located between the beach, mountains, and Disneyland. I've been a passionate quilter and photographer for over 20 years and only recently combined my two passions to create Stitched By Alexis in 2021.

My journey into quilting began with a rag quilt. My aunt, an avid quilter herself, asked if I had any interest in learning how to make one. That Christmas, I ended up making 12 rag quilts for friends and family. To this day, many of them still cherish their rag quilts, complete with holes and love wounds.

As for photography, my earliest recollection dates back to the mid-early 90s, with my first camera being a neon yellow 110 film camera. Who remembers those?

Over the following decades, photography gained traction as I continued to document vacations, nature, friends, and family. Later, I attended college and majored in photojournalism while working for a studio, handling editing, production, and shooting events.

As our little family was getting established, sewing and photography took a temporary back seat until 2019 when our love for travel reignited. With a dream trip to Italy planned, we knew I had to bring a DSLR camera, and boy, was I glad we did. That trip is what ignited a fire within me. Seeing those edited images that now adorn the walls of our home encouraged me to keep shooting, and still do as I walk past them daily.

Fast forward to 2020, which unfortunately requires no introduction. Like many others, we were devastated for various reasons. With a fair amount of time on our hands, Instagram became a source of entertainment but also a huge inspiration. The algorithm quickly caught on that I was in love with all things quilting and photography. Funny how that happens, right? :) So, naturally, both my sewing machine and camera came out of storage, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Through immense encouragement from friends, family, and this incredible quilting community, we decided to turn these passions into a business. We aim to help others finish their works of art by offering long arm quilting services and memorializing their creations.

So, without further delay, LET'S DO THIS!
